A Message From The Rector
I hope that you will find this parish to be a welcoming and open place to discover who God has created you to be. Saint Thomas Aquinas tells us that the final purpose of all people is to flourish and that the way we come to this flourishing is through the grace of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. This vision of human flourishing is not about attaining material wealth but striving for the immaterial love that leads to the transformation of every part of our lives. Whom we love will determine who we are. And who we are at Holy Cross is a people who love God and love our neighbor. This parish prides itself as a haven for the downtown neighborhood as we welcome the stranger, the homeless, the sick, the needy, and all others who might find themselves in our area.

An unconventional church with an uncoventional beginning
Believing the Church should continue to have a presence and ministry in the “inner city,” 126 people of St. Mark’s bought the building on Cotton Street and formed The Church of the Holy Cross in 1954.
As the downtown area continued to decline in population, we helped our neighbors: the homeless, the poor, and the disadvantaged with HIV-AIDS. Today our primary ministry is to our homeless neighbors, serving them through Holy Cross Hope House. In addition, we continue to partner with other churches and individuals to help the poorest of the poor in Shreveport and Bossier City.
Service to our community
The foremost facet of the Holy Cross congregation is its desire to serve. It’s how we began, it became our cherished inheritance, and it is who we are. From helping the homeless to praying with the home-bound, we have a ministry for you. So, do what you can, when you can, in any way you can. Anything will help, and you will make a difference.
